Continuous Flow ~ in Soulsbyville, Ca 2010 |
|
Our 2009 continuous flow (CF) worked so well, we decided to make another.
We thought “what would make the system easier?”, and decided it should be closer to the kitchen!
We took some old scrap hardiplank and made a smaller version that could be placed outside the kitchen window.
We will do the same as the 2009 CF and start with three inches of wet shredded cardboard. Next we will add a few inches of shredded wet newspaper. Then some native dirt, some composting worms and wet food stuff (the smaller and mushier the better). We will need to be more careful to add some cover (dirt, shredded newspapers, coffee, leaves ~ just non stinky stuff) since it is right by the house.
I am enjoying visiting the local llama farm with the kids and we get “poop” for the bin while we are there. Llama manure is a very nice, mild fertilizer.
We will let you know in the spring how this bin worked out.
Stay tuned!
